Lemon–Sour Cream Cookies

Our lemon cookies have a fluffy-yet-sturdy texture with a crumb that is simultaneously moist and light and airy. To achieve this unique texture, we reached for sour cream, which contributed moisture and richness while tenderizing the cookies' crumbs. Creaming the butter and sugar with the lemon zest helped release the oils from the lemon zest, enhancing the lemon flavor. A lemon–cream cheese glaze was a nice finishing touch that balanced the flavor and delivered a second hit of clean citrusy flavor.

Hazelnut-Chocolate Crepe Cake

Strawberry-Rhubarb Crisp

Sweet, juicy strawberries and bright, tart rhubarb combine to make a beautiful dessert with compelling contrast and complexity, and baking them together under a crisp topping is literally easier than pie. Since different batches of strawberries and rhubarb exuded varying amounts of liquid in this dessert, we mixed them with brown sugar and just enough cornstarch and then cooked them on the stovetop to coax out excess liquid. Once the fruit filling had just the right consistency, we covered it with an easy stir-together crisp topping and popped the dessert in the oven until it was just golden brown.
