Taste Test Winners in Kitchen-Tested Recipes

At America’s Test Kitchen, we’re as dedicated to testing and finding the best ingredients for our recipes as we are to testing and developing the best recipes. For just this reason, we put hundreds of everyday supermarket products to work in our test kitchen and then take it a step further. We taste them plain and in a number of our recipes, and we often call on outside sources—food scientists, industry experts, and independent laboratories—to help us figure out why some products taste and perform better than others. As we like to say, we do all the testing so you don’t have to.

We’ve published a 96-page special edition which includes 15 taste tests of ingredients home cooks use every day along with recipes that feature them. Sections and recipes include:

Tasting Supermarket Bacon - Barbecued Chicken Kabobs, French Onion Tart, Bacon-Wrapped Meatloaf, Grilled Bacon-Wrapped Scallops, and more. Tasting Chicken Broth - Braised Turkey with Gravy, Lighter Chicken and Dumplings, Quick Chicken Fricassee, French Potato Casserole, and more.

Tasting Canned Diced Tomatoes - Gumbo, Paella, Grandma Pizza, Mediterranean Braised Green Beans, and more. Tasting Supermarket Extra-Virgin Olive Oil – Grilled Tuscan Steak, Restaurant-Style Hummus, Garlic and Olive Oil Mashed Potatoes, Basic Vinaigrette, and more.

Tasting Cheddar Cheese – Classic Macaroni and Cheese, Quick and Easy Quesadillas, Apple Pie with Cheddar Cheese Crust, Quick Cheese Bread, and more.

Tasting Dark Chocolate – Ultimate Chocolate Cupcakes, Florentine Lace Cookies, Chocolate Bundt Cake, Chewy Brownies, and more.

Additional sections include Tasting Spaghetti, Rice, Soy Sauce, Ketchup, Mayonnaise, Unsalted Butter, Corn Tortillas, Chili Powder, and Creamy Peanut Butter. We also offer a complete Ingredient Buying Guide with the ratings winners from almond extract to low-fat and whole-milk yogurts.
